Abstract Art

We may describe such a category of art as abstract when one departs from reality. It can be loosely defined as nonfigurative art. Before the 19th century, we used optical illusion of reality. We modified visually the reality that we perceived in a visual form. For instance, the face could be made up of small squares and varying colors to look like the human face.

It is like looking through a broken glass if one was to dare make such an analogy. The artist can play with visual perception and give is own interpretation of reality as he or she sees it. Art is truly in the eye of the beholder when it comes to abstract art. Some call it progressive or new age art.
